When something goes wrong, say which version of Shiori you have (Shiori › About Shiori), your macOS version, and what you did just before. A screenshot helps a lot.
Moving from Anki
How do I bring my Anki collection over?
A new, empty collection opens on a welcome screen. Choose Import my Anki collection and pick your Anki profile folder: decks, note types, deck options, scheduling, review history and media come over in one step. Anki's files are copied first and never changed. You can also import an .apkg or .colpkg any time with File › Import… (⇧ ⌘ I).
Can I go back to Anki?
Yes. File › Export… writes an .apkg or .colpkg with your scheduling and review history, in Anki's current format or the older one for Anki 2.1.49 and earlier.
Does Shiori sync with AnkiWeb?
No. To move a collection between Shiori and Anki, export and import a package. Between your own Macs, use iCloud sync.
What's different from Anki?
Most things work the same, and your card templates and styling come over as they are. The Help menu lists the differences that matter if you come from Anki.
Your collection
Are my cards backed up?
Yes. Shiori backs up your collection when it opens, every 30 minutes while you work, and before imports and other big changes. It keeps the newest 24 backups, one a day for a week and one a week for four weeks. To restore one, choose File › Restore from Backup…. Your current collection is backed up first.
How do I keep two Macs in sync?
Turn on Settings › iCloud on both Macs, signed in to the same Apple Account. Sync uses your own private iCloud storage.
How do I make a full copy, with images and sounds?
File › Export Collection with Media… makes a single .colpkg file you can keep anywhere.

- Look a word up and press +. The card appears in Shiori.
How do I connect Claude?
Open Settings › Integrations › AI assistants and follow the steps for Claude Desktop or Claude Code. Every change an assistant makes shows in Shiori with an Undo button, and deleting always asks you first.
